The beach

What Baby Beach is like

Baby Beach is also called Klein Lagoen, or Little Lagoon. A rock barrier shelters it from the open sea. Lago Colony's refinery families swam here. The old Esso Club still stands at the west end. JADS and Rum Reef are in it.

You wade out and still touch the bottom. Most fish stay near the inlet: parrotfish, angelfish. The water gets deeper there. Strong currents run through the opening. Stay inside the lagoon, within the marked area. Keep your distance from sea turtles. Don't feed them.

The thatched huts along the shore are free. Big Mama Grill serves seafood and Aruban stews. Cash only. You pay $25.50 to rent a full snorkel set for 4 hours at JADS. You leave photo ID plus a $100 cash deposit or a credit card. Restrooms are at Big Mama Grill and Rum Reef/JADS.

Come early if you want a free hut. Around noon on cruise days it gets crowded. If you come in the late afternoon, arrange your return ride first. The last L900 to San Nicolas leaves JADS/Rum Reef at 4:55 p.m.
