Mangel Halto Beach
Snorkeling in calm water inside a reefChecked October 21, 2026 shade, parking and the shore from the sources below; distances by road, rounded; wind, sunset and ships from today's readings
Mangel Halto is a small beach in the mangroves of Pos Chiquito, on the island's south coast. It's 12 km by road from the cruise terminal and 8 km from the airport: 7.5 and 5 miles. A reef runs across the bay. You get in from a wooden deck with a ladder, or from a path through the mangroves. Beginners stay in the shallows beside the deck. The best coral is on the outer side of the reef, and that water is for strong snorkelers on a calm day. Public beach huts and the mangroves give you shade. You park along the road. It's the beach I'd pick for a quiet afternoon with a mask.
Today: Airport wind at 2 a.m.: 13 mph from the east. Meteo Aruba has sheltered water at about 1 ft today. 2 ships in port today. Come early if you want a palapa. Sunset is at 6:17 p.m., and you can watch it from the shore.

- I'd keep you in the shallows beside the dock if you're learning. Skip the outer reef if you see surf at the cuts. Head back to shore if the current gets strong.
The beach
What Mangel Halto Beach is like
Mangel Halto sits in Pos Chiquito, between the airport and Savaneta. Low mangroves grow right into the water, and the sand is a few small patches between them. A row of public beach huts stands along the shore. They're made for a picnic.
A reef runs across the mouth of the bay, about 300 m from the wooden deck. Beside the deck the water is shallow, over sand with rock and small corals. It's about 6 ft deep on the east side of the bay. That's the part for beginners. The center of the bay is deeper, and the current is stronger there. Wear water shoes if you walk in from the mangrove beach, because the bottom is rocky.
The reef has 2 cuts, and a buoy marks the deeper one. The coral is best on the outer edge: elkhorn coral, with parrotfish and schools of blue tang. That water is open to the sea. A current runs along the coast and pushes in through the cuts, and small boats use them too. That part is for strong snorkelers, on a day with no wind or waves and very little current. If you see surf at the cuts, stay in the bay that day.
Divers come for the same reef. It drops to 110 ft on the outer side, and the tugboat Kappel lies in the bay in about 40 ft. The mangrove channels lead to open water for kayaks and paddle boards. The water here is part of Marine Park Aruba, so take nothing and touch nothing.
